My professor wanted a tool for mathematicians which needed MATLAB to run and was incomplete, so I built them a webapp for it after reading a paper https://theory.stanford.edu/~valiant/papers/instanceOpt.pdf and building a solver for it. The complexities included matrix multiplication functions in the browser, and a lot of math.

A simple bot that plays a card game. 'Dirty Bit' won the competition. It was a Monte-Carlo algorithm, but the hack here was that I used bits and wrote a wrapper for bit manipulation instead of using the standard classes that were provided by our professor.
